Three Great Bathroom Ideas To Add Value To Your Home

Every home renovator looks for the best tips and tricks to create bigger bathrooms for less. So we’ve compiled three great bathroom ideas that will add value, and create the illusion of spaciousness, in your home.

It’s widely accepted that a well-designed new bathroom will add space, comfort and beauty to your home. However, great bathroom ideas will usually add more value to your home when it comes time to sell.

Creating an airy and fresh bathroom can come from updating select features and laying tiles in particular patterns, all of which will have guests swooning, according to Beaumont Tiles Product Specialist, Michelle Kearney.

“There are plenty of tricks that you can employ using tile placement, colour and light to make your smaller space appear just that bit bigger,” she says. “Things like utilising natural lighting or installing a wall hung vanity can bring a beautiful aesthetic that will make your home more liveable for you, and more lavish when it comes time to sell up.”

To add size and value to any bathroom, Michelle is sharing her top three renovation hacks for readers of the Plush Design Interiors blog and newsletter.

A Great Bathroom Creates Space With Tiles

If you have a smaller bathroom, there are plenty of ways that tiles can be used to create the illusion of space. This means home renovators don’t have to increase the bathroom footprint by knocking down walls.

“Tiles increase space in a big way,” says Michelle. “By installing subway tiles vertically from floor to ceiling you can make any space look taller. Alternatively, your bathroom will appear longer if large scale tiles are laid horizontally. I suggest looking at tiles in the Voyage White Gloss range.”

Another option is selecting one tile for both your walls and floors to give the bathroom a seamless and spacious feeling. However, consider using a lighter tone tile because the bathroom will seem larger if it reflects the light.

Consider Natural and Artificial Light Sources

Great bathroom ideas begin with space planning and layout. Renovators who think carefully about their bathroom layout in relation to natural or artificial light can create a glamorous space that seems bigger than it really is. This is because when light reflects off multiple surfaces it creates a feeling of openness.

“If your bathroom has a source of natural light, like a window or a skylight, it is important to map the space around it if you want it to look larger,” suggests Michelle. “If your space doesn’t have access to natural light, adding a large artificial light source will also do the trick.”

Make sure that bathroom features, like the shower or cabinetry, don’t block the main source of natural light and allow the light to cover as much of the room as possible. This will keep things bright and expansive as it shows off the beauty of the space.

“Mirrors can be your best friend when renovating. Installing one such as the Miro LED Mirror opposite the main source of light, will reflect light and create an impression of spaciousness and luxury,” advises Michelle.

Add Standout Features

Who doesn’t love adding a few luxurious features to their bathroom? Think about replacing tapware, adding a new bath, or replacing the vanity. Personally, I love a kick-ass light fitting or an ornate mirror (or both).

“Adding features like a gorgeous floating vanity can make a space appear much larger. Adding new tapware with a range like HAUS25 brushed copper (shown below) can quickly increase value as it creates a beautiful uniformity. And if the plumbing stays in the same place you’ll save on plumber costs too.” Michelle advises.

Michelle says she finds that one of the best ways to add value is by including a bath in your renovation as they are a luxury feature. There are plenty of small baths like the Cosmo Free Standing Bath (it’s in the middle of our header image) which is made for tighter spaces, however they are taller than your average bath so you can still enjoy a full body soak.

“What’s great is that these features don’t have to be updated all at once,” says Michelle. “Instead, they can be updated throughout the year so you can maximise your bathroom’s value without breaking the bank.”

Great Bathroom Ideas Without Breaking The Bank

Not everyone can afford, or needs, an expensive bathroom renovation. However, there are always solutions for your budget. Whether you use the full design and renovation service of an interior designer (we recommend us, of course) or take advantage of the expertise of Beaumont Tiles, you have options. The most important thing is that you get a beautiful new bathroom that suits your lifestyle and budget.
